How do we get there from here and where is there anyway?

Incredible...
This is incredible.
I'm attending a fantastic day conference at MCIU called Building Online Communities hosted by Will Richardson. It's about bringing the reality of how kids communicate into how we teach.
My mind is processing ways to bring this back to the "real world" of everyday.
I know somehow I need to find a way to build a connection.
I'd really like to know how the kids think about this. What would be the best way to do that?
I'd also like to do this in the company of others in my school community. Maybe afterschool?
I'm looking forward to figuring this out.

PS We were asked to practice linking...so here is my attempt. I started by googling "Will Richardson". As I read through some of his posts, I found something that may be of interest. It was a posting about a conversation "Is reading dead?"

It relays in part... a conversation with a family member who is a long-time high school English teacher and who has begun dipping his toes into the Read/Write Web. While he has been impressed with the work that his students have been doing on the blog, he’s said he is feeling conflicted at many levels about the
ways in which traditional literacies are changing, lamenting the fact that by
and large, his students have no interest in reading traditional texts. At one
point, he looked at me and said, “You know, it’s like reading is dead to them.”

Is anyone else's seeing this?
