Techniques of Research Spring 2010 Final Reflection

Dear students,
It has been quite a semester!

You are the first group from the Techniques of Research classes to have the opportunity to visit HACC library and hear about college life and academic research expectations first hand as part of this course.

In thinking back on your TR coursework and combining your understanding with the initial impressions of post high school expectations, what do you think is the most practical skill you will take with you? How do you plan to approach these new and exciting expectations either in your work life or academics? Please take a moment to think about the two questions and then share your thoughts and reflections.

Best wishes,
Mrs. Blessing, Mrs. Davis, Mrs. Englert, and Mrs. Hertzog

The Techniques of reasearch class gave me several skills to use in my post secondary education such as using noodletools, making outlines, revising, etc. I'll now be able to use the library at college efficiently and to the max.

The most useful item I learned how to develop a very good thesis statement. I will use this skill to write good papers in college. HACC was a very fun experience for me.

The most practical skill that I can take with me on my journey through life outside of high school is the ability to find things on my own and accomplish tasks to the best of my ability. Techniques of Research has helped me gain experience in completing projects and reports in an understanding manner. I can now research and complete assignments without struggling or becoming confused. Also, I plan on approaching future expectations with a confidence and with a good outlook on the task at hand. I've learned a lot through this class that I know will take me far in life.. and through college as well.

The skill I will most likely take with me throughout my college education is being able to gather many notes and organizing them in the most efficient way for my papers.

The practical skills I learned during Techniques of Research is how to find accurate and useful information for writing papers. I also learned note taking techniques that will help me for college and other papers I will write for future classes.

I loved the orginazation packets that we used for our essays. It was easy to find my facts for the essay. So thank you Mrs. Davis. For everything!!!!!

With the tools we've learned in our Techniques of Research class, I plan to use these with future research papers and essays in which research is needed. The trip to HACC made me realize that HACC was a good choice for me to go to so I could transfer and save money at the same time. BC

The most important thing that I think I took from this class was learning how to use databases successfully. Being taught how to use key terms, reliable websites, and works cited has really improved my researching skill. I've learned that random websites off of the internet are not going to be nearly as reliable as an article off of SIRS or GALE. I think that research projects in college or even my career will be considerably less confusing and easier to complete. I definately think that this class has benefitted me and will continue to through my post-high school career.

The skills present in the most active student is simply the skill of planing a grand work ethic, planning ways to preform the difficult task of studying, no other skill compares. The life of college is not duplicated anywhere else and the only way to get the full feel of college life is to be ini college right after high school, not half way through. Hacc is a nice idea, but for the people that wish to learn real life and meet real friends will go into college right after high school. money is a tiny problem, but a problem that may effect the avalibility of going to the college of your choice. finding the finance needed is hard, but the only reasonable advice is that you should take that large student loan and work to pay off your book cost and nutritional needs. The youth of Amarica has turned from mature young adults into self- proclaimed mature infants when compared to the standerds of older people. Facebook started as a wounderful way for teachers to communicate with fellow teachers and students, not that the youth have aquired access to Facebook there is anti-social teens that spend at least an hour on Facebook a day. Do to the rise in youth entering Facebook, new problems arise such as preditors and hacked profiles. like college, Facebook shuld be for the mature students that belong to a college, Hacc adds youth to the college life, College students shuld not have to see young teens in the school's halls and study rooms. The best skill one should carry with while entering a college is the drive to work, the planning to study and the best work ethic one could have to get the work done. Hacc is no substitute from college, it's just an easyer way to feel like a college student while savinbg more coin. ( N. F. )
